The snug and open fire

The snug is the oldest part of Hunter's Moon and the heart of the original 1580 cottage. Low beams, an open log fire and two deep velvet sofas make it the place to gather on winter evenings, with a glass of Somerset cider and the fire crackling.

Four and a half centuries of firesides

The fireplace here has warmed this room since the reign of Elizabeth I. When the cottage was a single-roomed farm dwelling, this was the whole house; everything else at Hunter's Moon has grown outwards from it. Today the hearth holds an open log fire with a basket of logs, kindling and firelighters provided so you can light it on your first evening.

Two large sofas and a matching armchair, all in deep blue velvet with mustard cushions, face the fire across a chunky oak coffee table. Cream walls, exposed beams and the carved oak window frames keep the room light in the daytime, and lamps give it a warm glow at night.

Television and music

A television with DVD player sits beside the fire, with Sky Q for the movie and sports channels. Music can be played through the television speakers, and the surround-sound system in the cinema pod can also be switched through to the snug, so the party can spread across both rooms. The downstairs bathroom is next door.

Dogs by the fire

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Hunter's Moon and the flagstoned hallway, kitchen and dining area are their domain. The snug is carpeted, so we ask that dogs stay off the carpets and furniture; full details are on our dog-friendly page.
