The master suite

The master suite is the crowning glory of Hunter's Moon: a split-level king-size bedroom and bathroom built around the tree that grows through the house, with a freestanding bath, a walk-in shower and a private cocktail balcony looking out over the garden and the fields beyond.

Sleep beneath the branches

Everything about this room has been hand-made. The bed has a headboard carved from a single sweep of oak, the doors and window frames are shaped like living branches, and the stained-glass panel above the balcony doors fills the room with colour on a bright morning. A comfortable armchair and window seat make it a lovely place to sit with a cup of tea and watch the birds on the feeders below.

The king-size bed has a luxury sprung mattress with a memory-foam layer, and you can choose between duvet weights. Each guest has two pillows, three towels and a set of Elemis toiletries, and there is a hair dryer, iron and ironing board in the room.

The bathroom

Steps lead down into a bathroom that is really part of the bedroom. The tree trunk rises beside a deep freestanding bath, so you can soak with a glass of wine and look up into the branches. There is also a large walk-in shower, a heated towel rail and twin his-and-hers basins set on a carved oak stand. Bath and shower products are provided.

The cocktail balcony

Doors from the bedroom open onto a small wrought-iron balcony with a bistro table and two chairs, high enough to look out across the lawn, the woodland and the misty fields of the Somerset Levels. Guests call it the cocktail balcony for good reason: it catches the evening sun, and there is no better place for a sundowner before dinner or a coffee at first light.
